Nesting Instinct

I know my last post alluded to the fact that the next post would come after Annabella's arrival. However, I wanted to take a minute and reflect on the past few days and how the "Nesting Instinct" has really settled in. For those of you unaware of what "nesting" is -- it's a natural phenomenon experienced by most (if not all) pregnant women in their last days/weeks of pregnancy. It's the urge to clean, tidy, and organize one's dwelling in order to prepare for the baby. Even though my conscious mind knows that this baby is not coming home with me -- my primitive brain thinks otherwise. I've been extremely emotional as well. I'll be browsing in a store and then out of nowhere my eyes will water and tears will sneak down my cheeks -- right in time for some clerk to ask me if I need help finding anything. My brain shrieks "Don't look at me - I'm a mess!" and my mouth says "No - I'm just browsing, thanks."

For those that know me all too well -- and those who are just getting the sense through my blog entries -- I tend to lean toward art and poetry whenever I am engulfed in emotion. I'd like to share a poem below:

Halloween decorations put away

Thanksgiving decor on display

Laundry is done and house is tidy

Pelvic pressure is getting mighty

Floors are swept and dishes clean

This is what “nesting” must mean

Two more nights in this confined space

Then we get to see your little face

Two more days for you to grow

Before your great big birthday show

I hope you enjoyed your place inside

While we’ve shared this incredible ride

Two days from now - a new journey starts

When you’ll reunite with two loving hearts

Hearts that have waited

Hearts that have prayed

Hearts that skipped a beat

The day you were made

Out of my body and into their arms

Cherished and adored above all

For they do not yet know how much love

Can be wrapped in something so small

Baby Annabella - welcome to this world

You’ve blessed us more than you know

First comes your cry, then comes your giggle

Until one day- you will just simply glow

Can't wait to meet you!

Love and Light,

Your Stork Mama
